Even iets anders dan quilts........

Vandaag even iets anders dan Quilt Market of in ieder geval een groot gedeelte van de dag. Ook wel zo leuk voor Alex dat hij ook even aan zijn trekken komt. Nu we in Houston zijn mag een bezoekje aan het NASA Space Center natuurlijk niet ontbreken.   Today for most of the day it will be something else then Quilt Market so Alex can have an outing he likes. Now that we are in Houston we can't leave without visiting the NASA Space Center.

 We maken een tour over het NASA terrein. We make a tour on the NASA grounds.

 Het Apollo controle center.

 Na de Apollo 17 werd er gestopt met het Apollo programma, de Apollo 18 is daarom nooit gebruikt en daarom goed te bekijken hoe groot zo'n ding eigenlijk is. After Apollo 17 the Apollo program stopped. The Apollo 18 never went to space and therefore it is shown at the base. It is huge.

 Sommige uitspraken bezorgen je na al die jaren nog steeds kippenvel.

After all these years some quotes still give you the goose bumbs.

 Alex gaat een ritje maken in een vlucht simulator maar eerst moet hij even helpen om een paar mensen te bevrijden, de cabine wil niet meer terug draaien in de positie waarbij men kan uitstappen.
Alex wants to make a flight in a simulator but first he has to help to free some people out of the machine. The cabin they are in won't turn back in the position of where they can get out.

 En dan gaat Alex op weg, het middenstuk draait 360 graden om zijn as. And off goes Alex, the middle part is turning 369 degrees.

 Op een TV scherm kan ik volgen hoe het Alex vergaat. I can follow Alex moves on a TV screen.

 Gelukkig hoeft hij niet gered te worden. Luckily he doesn't have to be rescued.

 Vanaf NASA rijden we weer terug naar downtown Houston om Terry, Emily en Shannon te helpen met het afbreken van hun kraam. From NASA we drive back to downtown Houston to help Terry, Emily and Shannon to break down their booth.

 Alles wordt ingepakt en in de trailer geladen en alle spullen voor de kraam voor festival worden uitgeladen en naar de kraam gebracht. Shannon laat zien welke kleding de dames gaan dragen op Quilt Festival. Everything is packed and stored away in the trailer, the new stuff for festival unloaded and brought back to the booth. Shannon shows the fun outfit the ladies are going to wear at Quilt Festival.

 Na gedane arbeid gaat een goed stukje Texas beef er wel in bij Texas Roadhouse. After the work has been done we are ready for a piece of good Texas beef at the Texas Roadhouse.

 Maar wat nemen de dames toch allemaal mee naar huis in die dozen......nee, dat verklap ik maar niet....But what are these ladies taking home in all those boxes......no, I won't tell......

Quilt Market Houston - Quilt expositie

Uit de vele, vele quilts die op de tentoonstelling hangen kan ik slechts een greep laten zien. Ik denk dat Shannon en ik tot nu toe slechts een derde hebben kunnen bekijken van alle quilts die er hangen. Deze quilt is geïnspireerd op het samenkomen op een Quilting Bee. Out of the many, many quilts that are shown at the exibition, these are just a few. I think Shannon and I not even saw a third of all the quilts that are hanging on the show. This quilt was inspired by the people who gather at a quilting Bee.

Van duizenden klosjes is de Mona Lisa nagemaakt ter gelegenheid van het 200 jarig bestaan van de garenfabrikant Coats & Clark. This Mona Lisa is made out of thousands of spools to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Coats & Clark Threads.

Sommige quilts zijn gewoon perfect gemaakt, sommigen ontroeren of brengen je juist aan het lachen.... in ieder geval is het genieten om zoveel moois te zien. Kijk maar even mee....
Some of the quilts are perfectly made, some move you and others make you laugh.....but in general it is just enjoying the look of all that beautiful work. Just take a look......

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Houston Quilt Market

Zondagochtend vroeg op weg naar Quilt Market. Dankzij deze geweldige dames Terry en Emily en Shannon natuurlijk krijg ik de kans een kijkje achter de schermen te nemen. Early Sunday morning on our way to Quilt Market. Thanks to those to wonderful ladies, and Shannon of course, I get the chance to take a look behind the scenes.

Dit is Emily's booth. Deze getalenteerde lady van Crazy Old Ladies ontwerpt patronen, stoffen voor Michael Miller en is de auteur van het boek 'Geared for Guys'.  This is Emily's booth. This talented lady of  Crazy Old Ladies designs patterns, fabric for Michael Miller and is the author of the book 'Geared for Guys'.

Shannon en ik gaan 'de vloer op' om rij voor rij te verkennen en geloof me.....dat is een hele klus!
Shannon and I go 'on the floor' to explore and believe me.....that is a lot of work!

We ontmoeten Jan Patek.   We meet Jan Patek.

Shannon's vriendin Jill Finley van Jillily Studio houdt een boek signing en ik krijg een exemplaar van haar boek, wat een bof! Shannon's vriendin Jill Finley van Jillily Studio is having a book signing and I am so lucky to get a copy of her book!

We maken alvast plannen voor onze volgende reis in Maart, hopelijk is onze camper een beetje groter! We are making plans for our next trip in March, hopefully our RV will be a little bit bigger than this one!

Doug Leko is pas 19 en al jaren een succesvol quilt ontwerper. Wat een talent!

Nog een vriendin van Shannon uit Utah (er zijn in Utah zoveel getalenteerde ontwerpsters!) Ronene Wilkinson. Ik kocht haar patroon "Welcome to the North Pole".   Ronene Wilkinson is also a friend of Shannon from Utah (Utha has so many talented designers!) I bought her pattern "Welcome to the North Pole".

En van deze dame heb ik al het nodige gemaakt, Lynette Anderson. I have made several things this lady designed, Lynette Anderson.

En kijk eens wie er al vroeg bij is dit jaar.....de Kerstman zelf. En O wat werd ik verwend door hem met de nieuwste Bernina..........  And look who is early this year.....Santa himself. And O how he spoiled me with the newest Bernina.........

Shannon zag opeens een paar bekende gezichten.....uit Nederland! De dames van de Sampler uit Haarlem die ze  dit jaar ontmoette toen ze op vakantie was in Holland! Het is hun eerste reis naar Amerika en ze keken hun ogen uit! Shannon saw some familiar faces......from the Netherlands! The Ladies from the Sampler in Haarlem who she met last January when she visited us in Holland. It is their first time in the States and they had much to look for!

Gail Pan de ontwerpster van Berries & Bluebirds, voor vele BOM dames van de Quilthoeve wel bekend.
Many Ladies who attend the BOM at Quilthoeve know that Gail Pan is the designer of Berries & Bluebirds.

 Weer een dame uit Utah, haar zus Sandra Workman is de ontwerpster van de stof Happy Ever After waar ik een fat quarter bundle van kocht op Sample Spree. Another ladie from Utah, she is the sister of Sandra Workman who is the designer of Happy Ever After fabrics. I bought a bundle of fat quarters of it on Sample Spree.

Dit is Eleonor Burns van Quilt in a day. Mijn blogvriendin Annelies geeft al 20 jaar les bij haar en het was zo leuk deze aardige dame even te spreken. This is Eleonor Burns from Quilt in a day. My blog friend Annelies is teaching at her company for twenty years and it was so much fun to have a chat with this nice lady. 

Van 100 naar 2200, ik heb ze allemaal gehad vandaag en ik kan je verzekeren, het is overweldigend! De laatste uurtjes van de dag brachten Shannon en ik door op de Quilt tentoonstelling en ook die is om je vingers bij af te likken maar daarover meer in mijn volgende bericht.
From a 100 to 2200, I did them all today and I can asure you'll it is overwhelming! The last hours of the day Shannon and I spend at the Quilt show and that is awsome too. More about that though in my next post.
